In 10 years of doing comedy I have never seen an act like this.

Reviews from Sydney Fringe Festival Show 2013

Combining poetry with humour is difficult at the best of times. But Alessandra Liverani triumphs remarkably with her one woman show. If I had one complaint it would be that the venue was too small to adequately present such a huge talent.

I attended the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2013 to watch the comedy acts.
One act that stood out from the ordinary was the performance of comedic poems by Alessandra Liverani.
Alessandra performed in an intimate space - a storage container that was transformed into a performace space, and Alessandra made that space her own.
Her stage presence captivated the audience and her witty poems and performance kept the audience laughing, enjoying themselves, and wanting more.

Her poems spanned a range of topics and she kept the audience interested. Poems that stood out in the performance included the 'Vampire of the night' - a poem about an annoying mosquito; 'Where Are My Glasses' - a poem about a person searching for his glasses everywhere except the most obvious place; 'Rooster' - a poem about hearing the dreaded rooster wake up the neighbourhood each morning; 'In the garden' - a poem about a fellow excited to use his new whipper snipper until he ended up with dog excrement in the blades and all over himself; ' Jiving in the jungle' - a poem starring many different animals and an abundance of alliteration, and 'IBS' - a poem about the unfortunate condition that made the audience laugh and laugh very hard.

A poem entitled 'Smokers rap' was performed as a rap, regarding the image of smokers, and the dangers of smoking. Alessandra performed this poem as she twirled a hula hoop around her waist. Teenagers in the audience may have winced at the quality of her rapping and her hula hoop mastery, but they would have had a hard time composing such an eloquent and rhythmic street rap. Finally, she presented a poem about writing the worst poem in the world. The originality and inventiveness of such a poem must be applauded.

Alessandra's comedic poems were delivered as only an author can read aloud and present their own novel - with energy, passion, and conviction.
Her performance was certainly an enjoyable evening of viewing, and a highlight for me of the Sydney Fringe Festival 2013 in the comedy section.

I went to Alesssandra’s show last year called ‘Humour with Lemon pepper sauce’ – it was very witty and funny. And I really liked that it was good clean humour, no swearing! Alessandra presented her show with great gusto and she knows her work very well. I would def go again!

My wife and I saw Ms Alessandra Liverani at the Sydney Fringe Comedy Festival.
We had a 12 year old girl with us.
My wife & I enjoyed the concert immensely, and, possibly more surprisingly, so did Elizabeth.
There was a good mix of adult and children’s poetry, especially the Lemony Peppery poem and Me Tellys On The Blink poem. The performance included audience participation pieces that livened up the show.
I would have no qualms about hiring Ms Liverani for corporate events, or for children’s parties.

Alessandra is a gifted observer of life and the funny things that happen in the course of an ‘average day’.  She is very witty and has a quirky sense of humour.  I have seen her perform several times and have found her an engaging and talented poet.
